Ah, lighting! It should be functional and it should be nice to look at. Those were the only criteria I considered and after much deliberation and hours of research I think I did a pretty good job getting our house all the way lit.
Bedrooms
Lady Pep
Baby girl has perhaps the prettiest and most delicate light in the house. It’s supposed to be a chandelier but we chose to hang it as close to the ceiling as possible.
It was definitely tedious to assemble and install. All those pretty little petals and leaves had to be screwed on individually. My poor contractor. Luckily my mother was there to help so the install went quicker than expected.
It really is exceptionally gorgeous in person. It might be my favorite thing in her room.
Master Ace
Finding the right light for his room was a challenge. I needed something that would complement and not compete with his house bed.
This light has an industrial feel that works with the room. It’s flush to the ceiling and open on the bottom. Visually it doesn’t get in the way of the bed.
I didn’t go with the Edison bulbs because I prefer a cooler light for his space.
The grown folks room
The light in our room was an accident. I originally purchased it to replace the fan in the living room. With the addition of the spiral staircase the fan was in a dangerous position so we needed a smaller light fixture.
Unfortunately, because I am terrible with dimensions the light I ordered was too big so I offhandedly said to put it in the bedroom. Oh, but do I love it in there!
I really lucked out with this one.
Other rooms
Bathroom
The bathroom was another lucky purchase. It is such an interesting looking light. We bought it on a whim when we were picking up lights for the hallway and laundry area.
How cute is this? I also ended up going with the coordinating vanity light to round out the bathroom.
Family closet
This is the fanciest light in the house. All the sparkles! As a bonus the light casts subtle rainbows on the wall. I thought it might be a bit too feminine for the shared space but it comes across more luxe and dramatic.
Misses
They weren’t all hits though.
It might have been due to design fatigue, budget concerns or having to make last minute decisions.
The hallway and laundry area are just builder grade LED lights. They are nice and flush to the ceiling but they don’t stand out. They are super bright though which is the most important thing on my list. Function over form.
Conversely, I went with form over function for the replacement living room light.
It’s flush, goes with the stairs and it is nice and compact. However, it is so dim. If I only had to rely on that light I would be ticked.
The best light in the house? This old white fan that came with the house. It’s a great fan and it is super bright. We usually don’t even put all the bulbs in.
I’m pretty pleased with all the lights even the misses. Lighting is so important in a home and the task initially felt overwhelming. Honestly? I’m happy to be done with it.
Which one is your favorite?
