I wrote before about why you should use Crate & Barrel’s design services. Let’s go over the process for the premium package that costs $99. It’s super simple. Note that the process is virtually the same if you are doing the 2-D mood board which has no associated cost.
Step 1:
The first step is filling out the form/questionnaire on the website. Make sure you have measurements for each wall in the room as well as the measurements for the windows and doors. The measurements are super important. Good measurements will get you a more accurate furniture layout. The style portion of the questionnaire is fun but don’t feel boxed in by the choices. You will get plenty of opportunities to fine tune and discuss your style choices with the designer.
Step 2:
You will be contacted by a designer after you submit the form. I filled out the form online in the middle of a business day and got contacted by email within 2 hours. Response time will probably vary based on when you fill out the questionnaire. The designer will send you a snapshot of your answers and ask additional questions. The most important question will be what package you would like. If you go with the premium option it costs $99. You will have to give your payment info over the phone.
Step 3:
More info still!!!! Now this is where the fun really starts. You need to take pictures. At least 8 so they can get a good mock-up in Modsy. No worries about clearing out the space. They will “erase” the clutter, the furniture, etc. in order to create your blank slate.
Step 4:
And now we wait. If you were timely with submitting the photos and measurements then it takes about 10 business days to get it done. It takes about 5 days for Modsy to create the 3-D blank slate and then 5 days for the designer to design the space.
Step 5:
They’re ready! You’ll get an email when the space is ready. Included in your package will be a link to the 360 view of the room and a PDF design document.
Full disclosure: I was so over the moon excited about the 360 view that I completely missed the attached pdf.
The design package includes more 3-D pics of the space from different angles. Priceless! There are also design notes with suggestions about paint, placement and decor.
There are two additional emails that show up after the design package. One email lists out all of the products used in the design with links to the website so you can purchase them. The last email has the code to take $99 off your next order.
Easy Peasy! The hardest part is waiting for the awesomeness to arrive.
p.s. If you are happy with your designer you can skip step 1 and ask if they can do another space for you.
All in all the experience was top notch! If you intend to purchase furniture from Crate & Barrel the service is practically free and worth way more than $99.
Have you used any retail company’s design services? How did you like it?
