Am I the only one who picks paint colors based on their names? I mean even if I like a color I just can’t see myself painting a room pond scum (not a real name) or lichen (real name). Maybe it’s the poet in me but names like Island Oasis and Euphoric Magenta make me swoon. Remember when I wrote about my indecisiveness? For the most part much of that indecision revolves around picking paint colors.
I wasn’t always like this.
When I first got the house I was super pumped to pick paint colors. I was house poor and the only furniture I could afford was off of craigslist. The easiest and cheapest way to put my stamp on the house was paint. Consequently, I painted every room a different color. Not only that but every room had at least three colors. A medium color for the wall, darker for the trim and then super light for the ceiling.
Some visitors have been overheard calling it a Skittles house.
There’s purple in the bedroom. Red/pink in the dining room & Kitchen. We’ve got a shocking green in the living room and Lady Pep has a blue play area/bedroom. The hallways are yellow inside the apartment and orange in the common space by the stairs.
Back to the present
The sheetrock went up and I was told the paint needed to be there in a day or so. I work best under pressure so here goes something.
The contenders
For the bathroom, I’d love to just use Rainwater* again but I’m thinking a little more blue might be nice with the gray vanity. The top contender is Tahitian Breeze. Doesn’t that just sound relaxing? The runner -up is snowdrop which is such a cute name.
For Master Ace’s room I’m on the fence with either Island Oasis or Aloha. The former has a much nicer ring and totally goes with the ocean/sea theme for his room. I’m also entertaining colors like Mischevious (goes with his personality) and end of the rainbow (sounds depressing).
Lady Pep picked her colors. Energetic Pink could not be a more perfect name for a color in her room. The other colors in her room are Pinque for the accent wall and Blowing Kisses for the ceiling and accent wall. Ummm…it’s definitely a pink room.
For our room, we’d like to do a purple that’s closer to lavender. Our top choice is Purple Gladiola.
The family closet is a bit of a toss-up. I’m thinking a really light color so as to not compete with the colorful clothes but I’m not into neutrals. The other thought was maybe a light peachy color. In the running are Noble Blush and Stolen Kiss.
I still haven’t used yellow or orange yet so those are going in the study/flex room, Mango Nectar and the hallway, Golden Nectar.
How do you pick paint colors? What influences your choices? Are you team neutral or team color?
